Muse Paintbar

Hello again everyone! I had to take a short hiatus to get my sanity caught back up (usual life things), but I’m back and ready to keep going!

This week we have to share with you a really fun place to go, and something to do! This blog is a place for not ONLY great places to eat, but for awesome adventures, pretty places, and just things to do in new cities. That being said, Muse Paintbar has a little bit of everything!

The great thing about this place is that there are so many locations scattered throughout the East Coast (sorry West Coast and Midwest) that this post can be relevant to so many of you! Their locations are in New York, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Rhode Island, and Virginia. The location I went to was in Virginia Beach, VA and was all around great.

SO let me start by explaining the concept. Muse Paintbar is an art studio that offers a selection of drinks and food. If you’re like me and have 0 talent in the visual arts department, do not worry! Artists and teachers lead the class and take you step by step through how to paint really awesome things. Each location offers different nights with different types of designs to paint. While I was browsing through the nights, I came upon one that I just HAD to do! Paint Your Pet night!!

If you’ve read my about me section, know me personally, or have been to my personal Instagram account (@chelseacake), you know I have an English bulldog that I am IN LOVE with! So this paint your pet thing had me written all over it. So I made the reservation, and surprised my girlfriend with this event’s theme.

Here’s the details:

The Muse I went to had different beer, cider, and wine selections (really great ones if you ask me), and a menu of different appetizers and such. We started off settling in with drinks and food, and ordered whatever whenever at the bar. The environment was very laid-back , friendly, and the manager and all of the workers were super nice. Each table has its own artist that helps everyone paint their painting, and there is a leader in front who shows everyone what the steps are and tells you how to do each one. The entire event took a total of 3 hours, but the time passed quickly because it was so fun! I have tons of pictures below of the location I went to, the paintings we did, etc.

So if you’re looking for something fun to do with your friends, your family, or a date, this needs to be on your list. If you’re in one of the states this place is in, I would definitely check it out because you HAVE to go to Muse Paintbar!

Bold Rock Cidery

Today I went to a special event at a place you all need to visit! Bold Rock Cidery in Nellysford, Virginia is one for the books! This cidery is one of the best I’ve been to, and is home to some of my favorite cider flavors.

This cidery is located near Shenandoah National Park, and is a beautiful drive along the way. The inside of this cidery looks like a lodge or a cabin, and has incredible indoor and outdoor seating that overlooks the mountains. The cider is made at this location, and there is a “cider museum” that shows the equipment, tanks, the process for creating it, and the history of cider itself.

The event today was the Rosé Cider Launch Party, where they unveiled their new seasonal flavor, Rosé! This flavor tasted great, and was the perfect combination of wine and cider taste. The other flavors they have are Apple, Draft, IPA, Orchard Frost, Premium Dry, Pear, Blood Orange, and Peach. You can’t go wrong with any of the flavors, and there’s something for everyone to enjoy! (So long as you’re over 21-years-old!) If you’re unsure of which flavors are meant for you, I recommend getting a flight to taste them all! (Pictured below)

The outdoors are dog-friendly, for friendly dogs! The people who work here are really friendly, and this is a great outing for friends and family.  If you’re looking for something to do while in this area, you HAVE to go to Bold Rock Cidery!

Tortilla West

Tortilla West in Norfolk, Virginia is a definite must-see. This restaurant is in the heart of the Ghent district, which in itself is a beautiful area with a lot of character. On Monday and Tuesday nights from 4-7PM they have .89 cent tacos, which is an incredible deal! The tacos come with either ground beef or beans, and sides of cheese and lettuce. Simple, but good!

From 4-7PM every single day (including the nights with already great prices on tacos) is their happy hour where their draft beers and house margaritas are HALF PRICE. That is one of the best happy hour specials I know of!

If you needed even more reason to visit, this spot is really great for groups of people including friends and family, and even for a date. They have a back room that has large booths that sit several people (around 8), a pool table, a pin ball machine, a Pac-Man machine, AND corn-hole boards! It’s the ultimate hang out spot.

You HAVE to go check out Tortilla West!

Citrus

Alright guys, before I go into detail on this next place, I want to make something known. I KNOW I have a weird obsession with breakfast places and mimosas, so fair warning, here comes another one!

Citrus in Virginia Beach, Virginia serves breakfast, lunch, and their own menu of mimosas. This is one of my favorite spots to go to, so much so that I celebrated my 21st birthday here getting, of course, a few mimosas!

I generally get the same entree when I go, the eggs benedict. They’ve won awards on that entree alone, if that tells you anything! My girlfriend loves the pulled pork sandwich and will usually get that. Their mimosas are some of the best I’ve had, and you really can’t go wrong with any of the options they have.

This is a great place, especially in the summer when you can enjoy the outside seating they have! There is a cornhole board outside in the waiting area and is a great way to pass the time if there’s a wait. This spot is great for family outings, hanging out with friends, and is a cute breakfast date spot!

I highly recommend this place, especially because there are two locations that you can enjoy if you can’t get into the other. You HAVE to go to Citrus, and I know you won’t be disappointed!

2018

As I sit here and reflect on the incredible journeys 2017 has brought me, I can’t help but start thinking about what 2018 will bring!!

I’ve had an obsession with traveling, exploring, and discovering since I was a little kid, and the obsession has only GROWN!

A few months ago I created this web site with the hope to find really great places and share them for other people to enjoy, and I never expected it to evolve in the way that it has and become what it was CREATED to be: the site and RESOURCE people use to find the places they HAVE to go to while in a city! It really is a dream come true, and the expansion projected for next year is challenging but it’s going to be well worth it!

Here is SOME of what 2018 has in store, and what you guys can be looking forward to:

-New York City, New York

-Boston, Massachusetts

-South Carolina (Inman area)

-North Carolina (Kill Devil Hills area)

-Richmond, Virginia

-And possibly Memphis, Tennessee; Las Vegas, Nevada; parts of California

I hope to hear from you all about where you want to see featured in some of these places, or other cities you want me to explore! As always, feel free to email me at chelsea@youhavetogoto.com or comment on this post! Thank you all for your love and support this year!

Bay Local

One morning while trying to find parking for a breakfast location down the street, I stumbled upon this restaurant. Immediately I was fascinated by the ceiling that I saw while I was walking by. (Not usually what your first impression is based off of, but hey.) I saw this place was packed with people and I KNEW I needed to come in and see what the buzz was about!

I woke up early one morning to check this place out before the crowd came in, and I’m so glad I did! “What is this place?” you’re probably asking by now. Bay Local in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This breakfast/brunch/dinner restaurant is one for the books. Between their delicious food menu, their incredible drink options, and the overall appeal and atmosphere of the restaurant and staff, they leave little to dislike.

This place is great because all of their food is sourced locally from the bay and from the farmers around. I would consider it a very locals spot (which is what they were going for, hence the name.) They have daily specials, and drink specials that change with the day. Pictured below are two of the brunch options they had on their daily specials, that were so good! I ate the eggs benedict (my usual go-to) with parmesan garlic tater tots. Yes I said parmesan garlic tater tots! YUM. I also had a strawberry sorbet mimosa. Double YUM.

When you come here you will get great service, delicious food, tasty drinks, and a super homey aesthetic that all combines into a really great experience. In short, you HAVE to go to Local Bay!

LeGrand Kitchen

This week’s feature is a restaurant that I love for so many reasons. When you’re good, you don’t have to try to convince people that you’re good. You don’t have to do much marketing or advertising, because nothing is better than word of mouth and personal testimonies. LeGrand Kitchen in Norfolk, VA is this place. If you look at the picture below of the front of this restaurant, you’ll see for yourself.

LeGrand has a small and unique menu, but they exploit and twist simplicities into the most tasty creations. My favorite item on the menu is the Burger. Seems simple right? But I swear it’s the best burger I’ve EVER had. (And I’m not a big burger person) If ever I crave a burger, I HAVE to go to LeGrand.

This place is owned and created by Stephen Marsh who you can always find in one of his restaurants overseeing everything and just generally ensuring everyone is pleased with his food. Notice I said in one of his restaurants, because he has another restaurant with a whole other food concept that he created. Unfortunately for you all, it will be closing at the end of the year, but he will have another concept opening up in 2018 that I’m very excited about! (Stay tuned)

This place is as locally owned as they come, and is one of my highest recommended spots yet.

So if you haven’t already, you HAVE to go to LeGrand Kitchen.
